Elsewhere for August 4th

These are my delicious links for August 4th:

  • Flip Flop Fly Ball – Some amazing infographics on Baseball.
  • 10 Amazing Cold War Propaganda Posters – The Cold War lasted from the end of World War II right up to the early 1990s, although the Soviet Union and the USA never actually engaged in direct battle. Instead, the Cold War was expressed through weapons development (the nuclear arms race), technological development (the space race), espionage and propaganda.

Western democratic states churned out huge amounts of propaganda material throughout the First and Second World Wars, but practically decommissioned their propaganda machines post 1945. This is why most of the posters that we explore below have emerged from the Soviet Union or independent political activist groups, and not the West.

  • Design Observer – The Design Observer redesigns. Nice, clean, much larger scope now. Crisp and 'newspapery'.

These are my delicious links for February 8th through February 9th:

  • Blog: Thom Glick – Thom Glick is a great artist. Thom Glick came from space. Seriously. He escaped from a horrible mucky planet, where all forms of art were forbidden and everyone had to eat puppies. It was a sad place.
  • jQuery plugin: Tablesorter 2.0 – tablesorter is a jQuery plugin for turning a standard HTML table with THEAD and TBODY tags into a sortable table without page refreshes. tablesorter can successfully parse and sort many types of data including linked data in a cell.
  • Sorted Column Highlighting Widget for jQuery TableSorter Plugin – Since Bill Beckman switched to using client side sorting for my tables via the tablesorter.js plugin created by Christian Bach, the one thing he have missed from the server side method he was using before is the highlighting of the sorted columns. He created a nice widget for this.
  • Basically, just some architecture porn. (or why building new types of buildings is a good thing) – Herzog & de Mueron won the architecture profession's highest honor, the Pritzker, in 2001; last summer their iconic "Bird's Nest" stadium was beamed into a billion homes during the Beijing Olympics. But unlike other starchitects they haven't been recycling old ideas (Frank Gehry, that's you). They just keep getting better. Witness a new museum/library/community center they just unveiled in Tenerife, Spain.
  • Spaceship Yamato. – Vincent Cheung makes the Spaceship Yamato. This is fantastic. I remember this fondly from watching as a kid, and I recently just started rewatching via Netflix. Nice timing. (via Neatorama)

These are my delicious links for February 2nd:

  • Sharpie Lamborghini – Impressive. They took a Lamborghini, painted it white then took a Sharpie to ALL of it, then painted a clear gloss coat over it to protect it. I love the effect. Very nice.
  • Kurt Vonnegut Motivational Posters – True Terror is to wake up one morning and discover your high school class is running the country.

These are my delicious links for November 12th:

  • 50+ Gorgeous Navigation Menus – Vandelay Website Design has a good collection of inspirational menu ideas. A pretty standard list as far as these lists go, but still worthwhile to have for possible inspiration.
  • Ten Web Development Tips I Wish I'd Known Two Years Ago – A very nice list of tips. I particularly endorse both the charging for IE 6 support, and the learning of a JavaScript API (jQuery, mootools, etc)

These are my delicious links for October 16th:

  • Mattias Inks – Mattias Adolfsson has a super lightweight and whimsical feel to his drawings.
  • Gorilla Artfare – I like Bjorn Hurris style a great deal. His steampunk Star Wars are pretty good, but be sure to go a few pages back as well.

These are my delicious links for September 25th:

  • 1996 McDonalds Hamburger – A totally fantastic prop to show people on how unhealthy McDonalds can be. I'm pretty sure I want to get a hamburger to show my kids this as well. It's a neat stunt.
  • Cathedral Of Light – Skidmore, Owings & Merrill recently completed construction on their incredible Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland. If you have been searching for religious -or architectural- inspiration, check out their awe-inspiring cathedral. The stunning structure makes beautiful use of glass, fly ash concrete, and fsc-certified wood, but we were most impressed by its incredible use of natural light.
  • In Case of Civil Unrest. – Heh. I love subversive art like this. I would love to see this throughout cities everywhere.
  • Monowheels: The Weirdest Transport Known to Man – Monowheel, monowheel, monowheel.
